Attack on Titan x UniVersus

The Project

I was brought on as a Graphic Designer for the Attack on Titan Booster series for UVS Games’ flagship collectible card game, UniVersus. This included the Booster sets, Attack on Titan: Battle for Humanity (Aug 2024), Attack on Titan: Origins of Power (Winter 2024), and Attack on Titan: Apocalypse (May 2025).

All art for the collectible cards is pulled from the official Attack on Titan manga, with each set focusing on a different arc in the series’ plot.

My Role

My main task was to colorize the black-and-white illustrations from the manga so that they would pop alongside the graphic information on the cards. All colorizations needed to have distinct colored backgrounds that matched the in-game “resource symbol” of the card. The colorizations also needed to be reviewed and approved by the manga publisher, Kodansha, to ensure they aligned with the Attack on Titan story and brand.

To ensure that colorizations were on pace to meet production deadlines, the creative team used Google Sheets and Asana to track the completion status of each card. Each of the manga panels was colorized in Adobe Photoshop and then shared on Google Drive to be used in the next step of the production process.

I became intimately familiar with the Attack on Titan IP to ensure accurate representation of the characters and story. Every card needed to be checked against the Attack on Titan manga and anime to make sure colorizations matched the original artist’s intention.

The Results

For the first booster set, Battle for Humanity, I only performed colorizations. For Origins of Power, I also designed the placement and cropping of the art, and for Apocalypse, I selected the art from the manga as well.

Across all three of the sets I performed over 400 colorizations and I am responsible for the design of the majority of the Common, Uncommon, and Rare cards in the Attack on Titan x UniVersus product lineup.

Additional Projects

During my time at UVS Games, I had the opportunity to work on UniVersus projects outside of Attack on Titan. My familiarity with the game mechanics of UniVersus and my ability to wear different hats as a designer allowed me to assist other parts of the creative team.

I used my background in Motion Graphics to quickly model and animate the card for the Attack on Titan card reveals.

As I became more familiar with the game, I saw the need to design quick reminder cards for the game’s mechanics.

Demo Deck Manual

In early 2023, UVS Games sent out “Demo Decks” to local game stores to help onboard players to their game. I assisted with the redesign of the game manual to accommodate a new script and newly designed demo cards.
